On the occasion of the International Day of Peace, the Norwegian Council for Tolerance and Peace reaffirms the importance and symbolism of this day, and the necessity of promoting a culture of peace regardless of the diversity of differences among people within societies.
The Secretary-General of the Council, called for strengthening the ideals of peace among all nations and peoples, committing to cease hostilities on this day, and celebrating it through awareness-raising activities and educating the world on peace-related issues, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals.
Hameed also urged all states and peoples to respect the cessation of hostilities and wars during this day and to celebrate by promoting education and public awareness on matters related to peace.
The world annually observes the International Day of Peace on 21 September, as proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in 1981.
