The Norwegian Council for Tolerance and Peace welcomes and strongly supports the ongoing efforts of the European Commission and the institutions of the European Union to advance comprehensive policies and legislative frameworks aimed at combating discrimination and promoting equality and tolerance across Europe.
The Council commends the European Unionโs commitment to addressing discrimination in all its forms, including discrimination based on gender, ethnic or racial origin, religion or belief, disability, age, and sexual orientation. We particularly recognize the importance of inclusive and forward-looking strategies that promote gender equality and protect the rights and dignity of LGBTIQ+ communities, as integral components of a just and cohesive European society.
Furthermore, the Norwegian Council for Tolerance and Peace acknowledges the European Unionโs strong and consistent commitment to the promotion and protection of human rights at the global level, notably through its active engagement in international forums such as the United Nations Human Rights Council. These efforts reinforce the EUโs role as a key global actor in advancing the principles of tolerance, non-discrimination, human dignity, and social inclusion both within Europe and beyond its borders.
The Council affirms that fostering equality, combating discrimination, and upholding universal human rights are essential foundations for sustainable peace and social cohesion. We reiterate our readiness to cooperate with European institutions, civil society partners, and international stakeholders to further strengthen dialogue, mutual respect, and peaceful coexistence among diverse communities.
